If I still had a very immature view of ERP when I first came into contact with SAP four years ago, my understanding of SAP has fundamentally changed in the four years of practice and project honing.

First of all: the management idea of SAP system

The core idea of SAP is to achieve effective management of the entire supply chain, which is mainly reflected in three aspects:

(1) The management of the entire supply chain: modern enterprises to gain a competitive advantage in the market, only rely on their own resources is not enough, must be the relevant parties in the business process, such as suppliers, manufacturers, distribution networks, customers, etc., into a close supply chain. Competition is no longer the competition between a single enterprise and other single enterprises, but the competition between one enterprise supply chain and other enterprises supply chain.

(2) Lean Production and agile manufacturing: Lean production refers to production based on supply chain partnership; Agile Manufacturing refers to the use of a company's basic supply chain and short-term supply chain to maintain high quality, diversity and flexibility of products at all times.

(3) Emphasize advance planning and in-process control: ERP planning system makes production, logistics, finance, human resources and other plans based on the entire supply chain, and ERP generates records at the same time of transaction processing, which is easy to realize in-process control and real-time decision-making.

Then there is the nature of SAP

SAP system is an enterprise resource management system integrating enterprise management concept, business process, basic data, human and material resources, computer hardware and software. Its core is the supply chain oriented management idea, its carrier is integrated application of client/server system, relational database structure, object-oriented technology, network communication and other information technology, following the ERP management thought design of software products.
